SENIORITIS: The one illness we don’t want to fight

Whew! Seniors, we made it through the first of the last. One semester down, one more to go. Should be a breeze, right? Well I know personally around Christmas time I started getting this strange feeling. There was an unprecedented slowness in my step, heaviness in my eyelids, and an unfamiliar desire to sleep during class. Could this be the infamous SENIORITIS? How did I come to be plagued by this? The bottom line is that senioritis is really a choice. You choose to embrace the laziness, the lack of concern, and the cruising along mentality.
The sad fact of the matter is, school doesn’t end in December for us seniors. Though we may not want to, we have to continue to turn in work and, oh yes, let’s not forget to go to class. I know the temptation to sleep it all off, and to just relax until June 5th, but it’s something we just can’t afford to do.
So how do we combat this extremely infectious, oh-so welcomed plague? Determination. It doesn’t make a difference that you got accepted into your college of choice way back at the beginning of December. Colleges reserve the right to rescind admissions decisions based on the remaining performance shown throughout the year. So if college is part of your future plans, you might want to make the choice to contract senioritis, at least not until around May. It will be a challenge at times, but our choices now may seriously affect our futures. Laziness at some points is all well and good, but let’s hold off until we are in the clear. Remember senioritis is a choice.
