The annual arts appreciation day for Chiles High School, held on Friday, February 19th, once again proved the amazing talents our students. Seniors Skyler Matchett and Christine Arnold, representing the drama and choral departments, hosted Have a Heart for the Arts performing arts program in the auditorium, while students in art classes participated in the outside all-day event, Chalk Walk.
Musical presentations were given by the guitar ensemble, five choruses, band, jazz band, both orchestras. Representatives from Drama classes one through four re-enacted group skits, monologues, and solos from their district competition last month.
“Heart for the Arts Day is important because due to the recession, a lot of schools are forced to cut back on their arts programs, and this day shows how important the arts are to students and why we should keep them,” said audience member, Krista Cunningham. “The arts are a great way to be creative and showcase talents. Also, art has been so important in history; it would be a shame to lose an aspect of human culture like that.”
A special thanks and congratulations to the performers and teachers!
